Susan Padron (01:37):
Thank you so much. It is truly a pleasure to be here with you today. Thank you.
Julia Marie (01:42):
I like to start at the beginning and that question always is, what was it like growing up in Susan's house?
Susan Padron (01:50):
It was very warm and loving home. I grew up with both my parents. I have an older sister, lots of love, lots of animals, and spirituality was definitely a strong component of my childhood for sure. Or I remember from a very young age having gifts and being able to see and witness spirits just in my normal day to day. Of course, knowing things which I now know is my clear cognizance kind of coming through nice and strong. But growing up, even though we talked about it in my household, we talked about
spirituality, we talked about spirits and all of that in the sense that my parents would mention how my great grandmother used to perform exorcisms, and that was just what she did. And my grandmother had a crystal ball, and my parents had their own gifts as well. I never knew how to harness and use my abilities in spirituality.
(03:09):
It was always something that I felt almost ambushed by. And when you're a child and things about people, sometimes when it's not always a good thing, sometimes when you have information that you receive from the universe, from your spirit guides that someone you deeply care about is going to leave this earth, it can be really terrifying. It can be overwhelming, and I definitely felt that strongly throughout my childhood going into my teenage years, I felt like I needed to shut that down. I needed to
disconnect from my spirituality because it just felt like it was too much and because I didn't have any guidance with it.
Julia Marie (03:58):
I often say there's hints at our destiny if we take a look back at our lives. And I read about your favorite pastime as a child, and I suspect this was a huge hint from the universe. So what was your favorite activity growing up?
Susan Padron (04:17):
I always loved going to the mall with my friends and picking out clothes for them. When I was old enough to go to the mall by myself and my friends would just jokingly say like, oh, I can't decide what to wear. I would pick things out for them. And that was always something that brought me so much joy, so much excitement.
Julia Marie (04:42):
I do like how you described your awakening as a tower moment and now the tower card in row, if it shows up in a spread, it often triggers fear in the hearts of most people. And yes, it's an intense image. I mean, lightning striking a tower, people falling down and being impaled. I mean, that's a pretty frightening image. But I like to say if you're on your spiritual journey and the tower shows up, it could be the best thing happening to you because it's lightning strike. You have a moment of realization, and we
could look at the tower in that case as the universe telling you you're on the right track. What was your tower moment and when did that happen for you?
Susan Padron (05:26):
Yeah, my tower moment for sure was when it was after I had my son and I was going back to teaching. I hadn't fully made up my mind about whether or not I was going to go back to work when my son was born, but then my husband lost his job and I had to, along with having a newborn at home, my husband losing his job, going back to work, that was when my mental health was at its most challenging. I was
having anxiety attacks and panic attacks way more than I ever had in my life, and I felt all of this conflict within myself. When I went back to work, I just knew things had to change, things had to be different, and I couldn't continue on the path that I was on, and it was like I could see it because these elements around me were starting to crumble.
(06:26):
Like my husband's job, my son, my life path, my mental health, all of that was very present, and I really needed to take that time and sit with myself and say, okay, how can I make this change? What can I do and how can I make this better? Because when things crumble, when you have your tower moment, to your point, you have to look at it and say, okay, well, here's my chance to rebuild and grow and make something different and better for myself. And that's when styling came back up for me. And when I
became excited and was able to transmute all of that energy into growing my business.
Julia Marie (07:14):
How did styling come back up for you? I mean, you didn't just one day decide, I'm going to go be a stylist. What
Susan Padron (07:19):
Happened? No, absolutely not. No, it came up for me because it was actually around the time when a lot of the clothing subscription services were becoming really popular, and a friend of mine said to me, I really enjoy what you pick out for me way more than what I get in my monthly box. You should work for Stitch Fix. And I said, absolutely not. If I'm leaving teaching, I am not going to work for somebody else. I want to work for me. But that was 100% my light bulb moment where just her saying that gave me that
permission. It unlocked something within me that was like, oh my gosh, I could be a personal stylist. And that was the beginning of the alignment for myself, that rediscovery of something that I loved to do as a child, but never, never in a million years thought that styling was something that I could pursue. I didn't know any personal stylists. I knew about celebrity stylists. I knew about the really terrible makeover
shows that were on tv, but I never met a personal stylist until she spoke those words to me. And then I started really doing the work to figure out how I could pursue that path.
Julia Marie (08:43):
Before we go any further, can you explain what an intuitive personal stylist is and how does that differ from what you were just referring to a regular personal stylist?
Susan Padron (08:56):
Yeah. So an intuitive personal stylist is someone like myself who is deeply connected with their spirituality and can use their abilities for reading energy, all of the different Claires that we embrace within ourselves to help people to tap into that deeper part of themselves, to really create that alignment for them and bring out, through healing, through personal growth, who they are in a reflection of how they dress themselves and tying all those pieces together. So it's more than just, oh, well, let's dress for your body type. Let's make sure you're wearing the right colors. It's so much deeper
than that. And it was something that I was doing from the very early stages of my styling career, and I wasn't even fully aware of it until I started connecting with spiritual mentors. And they really helped me to step into that and own it and speak about it and let my clients know that, Hey, this is what we're doing and this is what it's all about. It's so much more than just clothes.
Julia Marie (10:16):
So the main difference between a consultation with a regular stylist and one with you would be,
Susan Padron (10:24):
Yeah, I would say that it's the deeper connection to the sense of self as well as the spirituality being intertwined with it. So it's not just a matter of examining who you are on the outside and then bringing clothes to match that. It's going deeper, it's going much, much deeper, and we're doing a lot of healing, a lot of unlearning too, within all of that, which doesn't really happen with a normal, regular personal stylist. A personal stylist is going to look at you and say, okay, well, here's what I would recommend to
really highlight your body. And while I do that, I'm more concerned with your personality, with your journey up until this point with the journey that you're continuing on and how we can bring clothes to really highlight all of that and heal yourself along the way. Because for a lot of people, they're afraid to be seen as their true selves because when you say walk into a situation, you say, this is who I am. This is
who I am in an unapologetic way, then you're opening yourself up for the potential for other people to mirror that back to you. And if you're not doing that in a way that feels good, where you're doing it from a place of full confidence and full acknowledgement, it can be intimidating for sure.
Julia Marie (12:08):
Well, now you've told us what personal style is. Can you say a little bit about what it's not?
Susan Padron (12:17):
Personal style is not just copying an outfit from something that you've seen. Right. I like to refer to that as outfit plagiarism, where it is fine to get, we get inspiration from everywhere, and I love that I strongly encourage people to get inspiration from anywhere. But what I don't want is for you to walk into a store, see something on a mannequin and say that I'm doing that, and grab all those pieces and put them on your body and be like, this is fine. Style is not just something that's fine. It's not something that is, you're not settling when you're putting clothes on your body. That's not personal style. Personal style is a reflection. It's a deep reflection of who you are, and it's the first real introduction that you're allowing for yourself when you're meeting someone for the first time. When you choose pieces intentionally and you put them on your body with that intention, you're going to be attracting your people.
(13:28):
Your kind of people are going to be drawn to you based on what you're wearing. And even if it's done in a very subtle way, I love bold expression for myself personally, for my personal aesthetic, it tends to be a bit more bold, which means that I'm going to draw people in who are attracted to that. And I think that that's fun for me. But not everybody's like that. Some people are more soft-spoken, a little bit more
introverted, but they can still intentionally choose pieces that will draw other people in when they do it in a subtle way. And it's going to be other people that will notice those small subtleties and be attracted to that. So it can be done in all kinds of ways, but it has to be, again, intentional when it's not intentional when you're just, again, grabbing that mannequin outfit and putting it on yourself and being like, this is fine. That's not what it's about.
Julia Marie (14:24):
Well, you said a couple of things that people that hear me talk a lot are going to be familiar with, and that is intent because one of the first things my spiritual teachers told me, the invisible ones that showed up in my living room when they woke me up was intent is everything.
Susan Padron (14:40):
Yes.
Julia Marie (14:41):
So you're applying the very first spiritual principle. I was told to how I dress myself. And the other thing you mentioned that stands out is frequency vibration. And that would also lead into the sympathetic resonance with a person being attracted to you based on the field you're projecting with your clothes.
Susan Padron (15:05):
Right.
Julia Marie (15:05):
Well, that's very deep. How harmonious am I? How in alignment am I with my true vibration based on what I'm wearing? Well, the people that are drawn to me would probably tell me that if I'm drawing people to me that I'm really not, that's not what I wanted, then something needs to change. It would be like a short circuit. Yeah,
Susan Padron (15:29):
Exactly. It's a dissonance. It's an energetic dissonance that comes up when we are wearing pieces that are not aligned in our own vibration because, and that's when we feel like we're wearing a costume or when we're borrowing something from someone else. It creates that dissonance, and that's what other people can really pick up on within us too. And something that I share with a lot of my clients is that
when we are wearing pieces that are aligned with our own vibration, that's when, again, we're going to be bringing in the welcoming things we're signaling to the universe, right? We're ready. We're showing up. See me in my highest self when we're doing the opposite. That is when people are going to be more critical of you. And when people, because you're giving the opposite kind of signal where it's like, I'm
uncomfortable. Look at me, I'm insecure. And it almost welcomes people to be more critical of you when you're radiating confidence. Those people, they can't penetrate your vibration because you're showing up so confidently that it's almost like they can't see anything else but your confidence.
Julia Marie (16:54):
So listen up, all you impasse out there who are looking for a way to strengthen your energy field, and maybe you might want to book a consult with Susan.
Susan Padron (17:08):
Yeah,
Julia Marie (17:08):
Absolutely. If she can help you bring you in. Well, because what you just said was they wouldn't be able to penetrate my energy field. If I'm resonating a coherent vibration, then I'm bulletproof. Well, maybe not totally, but yeah,
Susan Padron (17:23):
It makes a world of a difference.
Julia Marie (17:26):
Well, I was going to ask you what my personal style has to do with spirituality, but I think we're pretty much covering that one. And again, but for clarity, how was my personal style related to my authentic expression of who I am?
Susan Padron (17:47):
It is aligned with who you are because it should be that visual representation. We can have a conversation if we're talking on the phone, not FaceTiming or anything. Right. Then personal style feels irrelevant in a lot of ways, right? Because we're just communicating. But the reality of it is, for the most part, we're showing up in all different places in our day-to-Day, whether it's we're running errands,
we're meeting with friends, we're doing something for our kids, for ourselves, whatever it is we we're showing up. And in most situations, you're wearing clothes, and that clothing should be that full representation of you. It should be like, this is who I am. If I'm wearing bright, bold colors like I am today, if I have fun accessories on, if I have a chunkier, edgy pair of shoes on, then that's going to give you little bits of information about me you're not even fully aware of, but I am.
(19:01):
And when we have that conversation, or even just like if you pass me in the store, you're going to know things about me right away. And then if we have a conversation in person, you'll see where that alignment comes into play, because my personality matches all of those little details that are highlighted in my outfit. And then if we go beyond that, if we go into, if I'm pursuing different opportunities in my life, or if I am trying to attract certain people, if I'm trying to find certain clients even, well, my goal isn't
to address my clients exactly like me. That's the opposite. I want to address them who
Julia Marie (19:47):
They are, like them,
Susan Padron (19:48):
Exactly as a unique individual, but there's going to be that special something. We know it's vibration, we know it's an energy and alignment, but they might not know right away that that's what they're being drawn into.
Julia Marie (20:04):
Let's talk manifestation for a few minutes because you've kind of got me thinking along those lines. It's a hot topic right now, but the idea that my closet can be a potential manifestation tool, that's an interesting twist. Oh
Susan Padron (20:27):
Yes.
Julia Marie (20:28):
You say your closet should amplify your spirit. So 100. Can you talk a little more about that?
Susan Padron (20:36):
I would love to. Thank you. So your closet is where I always like to say you need to start whether you're on a personal style journey, whether you're trying to discover personal style or if you're trying to bring in manifest different things for your life. And there's so many different reasons that I like to start there, but specifically when we're talking about manifestation, it's because a lot of us have a tendency to hold onto
a lot of clutter, a lot of visual noise as I like to refer to it when it's in our closet. And a lot of messages that are really just negative energy. And what I mean by that is we have the tendency to hold onto
clothes that might not be our current size. And when we do that, it is you're constantly receiving the message from yourself and the energy from your clothes that's saying, you're not good enough right now.
(21:43):
And that message is terrible. We receive so many other messages from the media that we're bombarded with regularly. The last thing that we need is a message from ourself, from our clothes in our closet to be relaying that same thing. No, no, no one needs that. We don't need to hear. You're not good enough or you're not good enough right now. You need to change. You need to be thinner, smaller, better, whatever it is that you're telling yourself. And the easiest way to remove that negative
energy and to remove that messaging is to remove those clothes from your closet. So to go through everything in your closet and first start out by pulling out the pieces that you're not wearing because they're just not your size, whether they're too big, too small, doesn't matter. They're not your current size. We need to pull those out.
(22:42):
So that's the first place that I always like to start. And then going from there, even exploring the pieces that you might be holding onto that might have a negative memory attached to them too. And these can be sneaky. And this is why I always suggest going through everything, because you'll get to something in your closet, and if we were doing this together, I would ask, what is it about that piece that makes you not want to wear it? And that's where this memory becomes unlocked for you. And it might happen
right away, it might take a minute, but that's where some things like, oh, well, this is a dress that I wore to my grandfather's funeral, or this is a dress that I wore this top I wore when I lost my job. Or, oh my gosh, my ex-husband hated that dress. He always said that I looked terrible in it.
(23:37):
There's always something in it that the energy, the negative energy is really attached onto that clothing item, and you are never going to want to wear it again. And when you pass it in your closet, you might even feel some of that negative energy when you're touching it, and then that's going to affect an impact the rest of your day. And you might not even fully know why. And we're constantly, when we're sensitive, energetically sensitive individuals or empaths, we're constantly, we're used to going into a
space like a building or a room and feeling the energy. We're used to having interactions with other people and picking up on energy, and even objects too, like crystals and things like that. But we sometimes forget about how clothing can be included in all of it too. And we're almost subjecting ourselves, or we are not almost, we are subjecting ourselves to these negative energetic experiences within our closet, and we don't even realize that we're dosing ourselves in that way when it can be a
completely different experience. And instead of having those little negative moments, it can just be positive and amplifying our energy and adding to our vibration rather than stealing little snippets of it away.
Julia Marie (25:11):
Okay. So as you're talking, I'm mentally going through my closet. I'm realizing, oh crap, I'm going to be almost naked if I actually do this.
Susan Padron (25:27):
Exactly. And it doesn't have to happen all at once too. That's the other thing. I think a lot of people when we first start working together who have a similar realization that you just did, they're like, oh my gosh, I am going to be naked
Julia Marie (25:40):
Until
Susan Padron (25:40):
The foreseeable future. And you don't have to do that. What I suggest is start with the big pieces, and they're usually the pieces that you're not wearing anyway. So start with those, remove them, and then the other pieces that might be a little bit more subtle. Take mental note, even create a list. I like to create a list in the notes app on my phone of saying, okay, these are the pieces that I want to replace.
And this is where intention comes back because we're going to be intentional about how we're shopping and what we're looking for, and we're looking for specific replacements that feel good, that fit better, that don't have that memory associated with them, whatever it is, that is the reason that we're parting with it, and we're going to find a replacement that celebrates our bodies for how they are now, and that
celebrates the journey that we're on rather than who we were or how that person made us feel in a negative way when we're looking at that particular clothing item. So yeah, you don't have to throw everything out, I promise. Oh,
Julia Marie (26:47):
Good. Thank you. Thank you. Of course. And I do like what you intimated, and that is, as I grow as a person, whether I'm on a spiritual path or not, I need to also maybe consider evolving what I'm putting on myself.
Susan Padron (27:07):
Absolutely.
Julia Marie (27:08):
What are some of the things that can happen if I choose not to do that?
Susan Padron (27:15):
I think that's where you're going to feel stuck. You're going to feel so much more limited in just what you're pursuing within your life. If we're still wearing pieces from years ago that don't feel like they're a reflection of who we are, then it's almost like you're holding yourself back rather than saying, okay, yeah, this is what I see for myself. These are my goals. I'm taking a look at my vision board. What's on there? What do I want for myself? And then starting to dress in ways that support that rather than, I know a lot of my clients when we were coming out of being in lockdown or the pandemic, when they
were ready to start thinking about, okay, what do I want to wear? In a lot of ways our bodies changed, right? Okay, fine. But in a lot of ways, we grew and changed tremendously as individuals and as a collective during that time that when we revisited the close that we bought at the end of 2019 or early 2020, they just didn't feel like us anymore. And that really, I mean, while sizing plays a part in it and how
things have changed, plays a part in that too. It's so much more deeply rooted in the fact that no, no, no. You've changed as an individual. You've changed as a person. You are not that same person that you were at the end of 2019 and early 2020 that you are now. And therefore, even if those clothes still fit, it's
Julia Marie (28:54):
Like they don't fit.
Susan Padron (28:55):
They don't, don't fit your energy, they don't fit who you are. There's so much more to it than that. So it's like you need to support the person that you are, the person that you're becoming, and really celebrating that instead.
Julia Marie (29:11):
Now I understand why it's important to update my style. Yes. What does a consultation with you look like?
Susan Padron (29:21):
First, I would be honored to offer your audience a $100 discount off of my style consultation just from being a wonderful listener for your show. But what it looks like is when we hop on a call, it's a one-on- one call. We get to really talk through what you want, what your goals are for yourself, who you are. I like to learn about you. If you've listened to the episode thus far and you're here now, you know that it's
more than just like, what are your sizes? Where do you shop? That plays a part in it too, but it's so much deeper. And what I love to do in that time where we're getting to know each other and you'll share about pieces that you've worn or that you do wear that you really love to put on your body, that you really love to create outfits around.
(30:12):
And then we start to really discuss what that style, what your style looks like. And then from there, I get to pull some beautiful recommendations for you, sending you actual links to different clothes, accessories, shoes, literally anything you'd put on your body. That's what I can help you with. And you'll develop so much more clarity around where you should be shopping, how you should be shopping too, without all of the overwhelm of doing it on your own. And it's really perfect for the person who is just
tired of starting it like every morning, staring at their closet and just saying like, oh, I just want to feel put together. I want to feel good. And instead of grabbing the same two pieces, same top and bottom that you wear every day, and just feeling like meh or feeling okay about yourself, you should feel inspired instead by your outfit choices. And excited too. Right? It should be fun for you to get dressed.
Julia Marie (31:22):
Oh, the word you just said, it should be fun for you to get dressed. I had an image of when we're small children and we play dress up.
Susan Padron (31:32):
Yes. I'm so glad that you said that. And that's so, so much of what we get to do together, especially when I'm working with clients for a longer period of time, so much of that is not just inner child healing, but it's inner child's celebration where we're giving ourselves permission to reconnect with that younger sense of self, with that joy, that play, that excitement that we used to have when we were kids before
we were even aware of anyone else's opinions or the nonsense rules that came up. Putting rules in quotations, of course, and just being able to play and unapologetically show up as ourselves, because that was our first real opportunity to do it. And I know for myself, for my own healing journey and returning to that inner child sense of play, for me that was getting fun nail designs.
Julia Marie (32:41):
Well, now I can see all these little fairy princesses somehow being translated into an adult version of that. Yes, yes. Yeah. How can the listeners find you?
Susan Padron (32:56):
I mean, I would love for them to interact with me on Instagram. It's probably where I'm the most active, but if they're looking to work with me, I know that there will be links in the show notes. But of course, my website is one of the easiest ways to get in touch with me directly as well, especially if they're not on social media. And my website is just, my name is susan padron stylist.com, so really easy to find me.
Easy to contact me there.
Julia Marie (33:31):
Susan, I want to thank you for being with us today. I enjoy this conversation immensely. I'm so
Susan Padron (33:38):
Glad. Did, too.
Julia Marie (33:39):
One more thing to ask you. You do have that offer and you mentioned it. How can they access that?
Susan Padron (33:47):
I would love to share the link with you so that you can include it in the show notes. That is definitely the best way. But again, if they, for some reason the link is not accessible to them, they can reach out to me directly and I will gladly share the discounted offer with them.
Julia Marie (34:08):
Perfect. So then all they have to do is mention they heard about this on evolving humans. Is that
Susan Padron (34:13):
Exactly? Yep. Perfect. That's it. Nice and easy.
Julia Marie (34:16):
Do you have any final message or final words you'd like to leave with the listeners?
Susan Padron (34:22):
Absolutely. I think that whenever they feel overwhelmed, especially when it comes to choosing something to wear, my favorite favorite recommendation is for them to return to their sense of self.
And they can do that just by standing in front of their closet, closing their eyes, feeling grounded within their bodies, taking a few deep, slow cleansing breaths, and with their eyes closed after they've taken those breaths, ask themselves what they want to wear and allowing their intuition to guide them and don't second guess it. There's a reason that your intuition comes in and says like, yeah, this is what we want to wear today. Trust it. See where it goes. See where your day goes. It's a fun little exercise that
can be really a big game changer in how you get dressed.
Julia Marie (35:20):
Brilliant. Thank you. So I just want to thank you again for spending time with us today.
Susan Padron (35:26):
Well, thank you.
Julia Marie (35:28):
And now a summary of today's show. Susan told us her story in brief, what her favorite pastime was, the child and the tower moment that set her on the road to what she offers today. As an intuitive personal stylist, we learned what an intuitive personal stylist is, and Susan clarified what personal style is and is not. We talked a little bit about how matching your style with who you are, broadcasts a more coherent
energy field and helps you attract the desired people into your life. She detailed what a closet cleanout process entails and tells us why clothes should reflect your spirit. We touched on how clothes hold memories and energy, and why releasing those items allows us to release the past. She describes the stages of letting go, how to be intentional about how we shop for our new wardrobe. She gave us a final
really cool tip on how to choose our clothes, using our intuition every day to the evolving humans. Listeners, I want to thank you for your continued support of this podcast. When you share an episode with two other people, you help bring more light to the world. And now, here's a quote for you to ponder as you go about your day:
Fashion is a language that creates itself in clothes to interpret reality. Carl Lagerfeld
